VIEW MY WORK
Photography by Vincent Matthews ASGFA
I first became interested in photography when I was studying at Croydon School of Art and Design about 30 years ago. It is rare for me to go anywhere without a camera.
I believe that photography is about capturing a moment in time. Because of my purist 35mm film SLR background, when I use my digital SLR I try to get all the information right at the point of taking the pictures, rather than messing around with the images afterwards on the computer. The discipline I learned from the old fashioned still photography is to carefully consider the composition, subject matter, light, shadows, colour, warmth/coolness, textures and focal point before taking a photograph, rather than the tendency with digital photography to just snap away lots of pictures and hope for the best.
As you can see, my subject matters are varied, with a particular interest in old buildings and landscape, but thanks to the CityLit Fine Art course, I also photograph more abstract and unusual things too.
