Abstract Paintings by Vincent Matthews
My oil abstracts are usually derived from my representational sketches, paintings and photographs. I tend to work through the image gradually until it takes another interesting form and I like the visual games that this method plays. It’s interesting to watch people’s reactions in trying to work out what the final abstract pieces are. As with my traditional oil paintings, I like to build up the image in layers of colour glazes, which slows me down to think it through and react to the picture in stages. This medium has a nice finish and I generally prefer it to the flat modern acrylic paint.
