Oil Paintings by Vincent Matthews
With regard to my architectural landscape paintings, I am largely self taught and I work from sketches and photographs. In this age of everything being quick and instantaneous, I particularly like the way oil painting slows the process down and makes one think through the work stage by stage and by using the layering technique, giving depth to the the final piece.
Although the impressionists very much painted outdoors and used thick expressive brushstrokes, I tend to treat oil paint in the old fashioned manner of it being a studio medium. I always like to have an oil painting in progress on my easel.
