I really enjoy this medium. The translucency it gives is wonderful and the way one can play with it, using water, gives me a buzz. It is a wonderfully delicate medium and, like oil painting, I like the way one can build up the pictures in layers with washes of colour. There is also an element of risk that one often has to work with, any false moves have to be accommodated. Watercolour was generally acknowledged as a draughtsman’s medium and with my very strong drawing background it often compliments my detailed sketches.
